Getting Started in Cloud CTF

Abstract

This KB article will cover how to setup a CTF environment and start a competition in Cloud CTF. This article is intended for CTF Admins (Cyber Range Instructors). Please see the section titled Cloud CTF Roles for more information on Cloud CTF roles. If you do not yet have an account with the U.S. Cyber Range, please see the article titled Accepting an Instructor Account Invitation.

Checklist Before Getting Started with Cloud CTF

  1. Please make sure you have an account with the U.S. Cyber Range. If you do not yet have an account, please see the article titled Accepting an Instructor Account Invitation.

  2. If you already have an account, please make sure you can successfully login to the Exercise Area of the U.S. Cyber Range. Please see the article titled How to Login to the Cyber Range for more information.

  3. For a brief introduction to Cloud CTF, please see the article titled Cloud CTF Overview.

  4. To create a Cloud CTF environment, please see the article titled Creating a Cloud CTF Environment.

How to Setup a Private or Public Cloud CTF Environment

Note

Public registration is not supported in all plan types. Please contact support if you require public registration for your Cloud CTF competition.

Cloud CTF allows for both private and public CTF competitions by providing a public registration feature in the admin settings of a Cloud CTF environment.

How to Add Challenges to a CTF Competition

CTF Admins can create fully functional CTF competitions within a few short minutes by using the Cloud CTF challenge library feature. This feature provides Admins with a diverse selection of pre-made challenges that can easily be imported into a competition. For a quick guide on importing challenges from the challenge library, please see the article titled Adding and Removing Challenges.

How to Set Start and End Times for a CTF Competition

Once you have created a Cloud CTF environment and have successfully added challenges, please remember to set a start and end time for the competition. Please see the article titled Setting Cloud CTF Start and End Times for a detailed look into controlling the lifespan of a competition.
