Domain Login

Abstract

Windows Servers Environments offer the option to toggle on domain login in the virtual machines. By default, domain login is disabled, and the machines autologin as expected. Allowing domain login enables instructors to introduce students to creating and managing domains in Windows. This article will explain the process to enable domain login for new or existing Windows Server environments, as well as where instructors can view environment credentials, both personal and for the users enrolled in the course.

Allowing Domain Login

Important

Domain login is only available for environments with Windows Server as one of its access points.

When domain login is allowed, joining a domain-capable access point in the environment will prompt the default OS login, allowing users to manually enter a username (either local or domain account) and password of their choice. For local login, the "Domain" box should be left blank.

There is an input for the following in descending order: Username, Password, Domnain. The Continue button is below with the Cancel button to the right.

New Environments

Once you’ve selected an environment to create for your course, you can scroll down to the “Advanced Options” section of the environment page and check the box to allow domain login to Windows Servers.

The "Advanced Options" section is at the bottom of the environment page. "Allow domain login to Windows Server(s)" option is under the "Allow students to reinstall their exercise environments" option.

Existing Environments

For existing environments, you can select to edit the environment on the environment page.

The "Edit Environment" button is above the "Delete Environment" button on the environment page.

You can then scroll down to the “Advanced Options” section of the environment page and check the box to allow domain login to Windows Servers.

The "Advanced Options" section is at the bottom of the environment page. "Allow domain login to Windows Server(s)" option is under the "Allow students to reinstall their exercise environments" option.

Viewing Environment Login

View My Environment Login

On the environment page, users can select the “View My Environment Login” to view their own environment’s credentials.

The "View My Environment Login" button is under the "Copy My Environment" button on the environment page.

View User Environment Credentials

On the environment page, instructors and TAs can select the “View Credentials” button denoted with a key icon to view the environment credentials for their users.

The “View Credentials” button is under the Controls section next to the user.
